Greetings, everyone! This is Mustafaa, your Digital Marketing Specialist, sharing valuable insights and actionable tips to help you improve your digital presence. In today’s blog, I want to focus on branding and the critical role it plays in shaping how your business is perceived.

Continuing Education as a Digital Marketer

Before diving into branding, I want to share something I’ve found essential in my journey as a digital marketer: the importance of continuous learning. Recently, I came across the book The One-Page Marketing Plan. This incredible resource breaks down nine steps to creating a concise marketing strategy, and it was a real eye-opener for me.

Whether I’m reading Kindle books, listening to audiobooks, or subscribing to industry newsletters, I make it a point to consume as much as I can about traditional marketing, digital marketing, AI in marketing, and beyond. The field of technology evolves so rapidly that what worked six months ago may already be outdated. If you’re using old tactics, you might be doing the right thing—but at the wrong time—and missing out on results.

For me, dedicating two to three hours a day to learning means I can finish most audiobooks or eBooks within a few days. This habit keeps my skills sharp and my strategies relevant. Whether you’re a small business owner, entrepreneur, or digital marketing professional, staying curious and hungry to learn is vital. You don’t have to dedicate as much time as I do, but feeding your knowledge consistently is essential to staying ahead.

What Is Branding?

Now, let’s shift our focus to branding. Over the years, I’ve found it challenging to define branding in simple terms. Even as someone deeply immersed in the field, the concept can be elusive. Definitions vary depending on who you ask, and that variety has made it difficult to articulate branding concisely.

The One-Page Marketing Plan offered a definition that resonated with me: “A brand is the personality of a business.”

Think about it—just as people have unique personalities shaped by their tone, style, and actions, businesses do too. Your brand is reflected in your logo, customer service, marketing tone, advertisements, and the way you interact with your audience. It’s everything that contributes to how people perceive your business.

Your personality colors how you present yourself. Are you witty, serious, academic, or creative? Do you share thought-provoking posts or lighthearted memes? Similarly, the personality of your business—your brand—shapes how people view and connect with you.

The Role of a Branded Email

Now, let’s zero in on one particular aspect of branding that often gets overlooked: your email address.

We’ve all seen businesses claiming to be professional, yet their email address is something generic like xyz123@gmail.com. Even if the business checks all the other boxes—professional website, social media presence, and excellent customer service—a generic email can create a disconnect. It might seem like a minor detail, but it can undermine the perceived seriousness of your business.

Compare that to my email: letstalk@digitalmarketingwithmustafaa.com. Not only does it look professional, but it also reinforces my brand identity. My name and business are front and center, making it clear who I am and what I do. When I give someone my email address, they often pause, double-check, and even compliment how professional it is. It’s a small detail that speaks volumes about your credibility.

How to Get a Branded Email

Setting up a branded email is easier and more affordable than you might think. Here are two popular options:

  1. WordPress: If your domain is hosted on WordPress, you can add a branded email for an additional $25–$30 a year. This keeps everything streamlined if your website is also hosted there.
  2. Yahoo (Turbify): Yahoo’s domain service, Turbify, offers branded emails for free when you purchase a domain. Domains start as low as $10.99 annually, and you can save even more by purchasing multiple years upfront. This is an excellent value if you’re just starting out and want to keep costs low.

Why It Matters

A branded email does more than facilitate communication—it positions you as a professional, credible business owner. It ties directly to your domain name, reinforcing your brand identity with every interaction. It’s an opportunity to make a strong impression, showing clients and prospects that you’re serious about your business.

Imagine the pride you’ll feel—and the confidence you’ll inspire—when your email reads something like yourname@yourbusiness.com. It’s a small investment with a significant impact.

Take Action Today

If you’re still using a generic email like yourbusiness123@gmail.com, it’s time to upgrade. A branded email strengthens your brand’s personality, positions you as a professional, and makes your business stand out in the digital landscape.
