From there, I dove into ebooks, dropshipping, and paid blogging platforms like Themestream. I’ve sold products, received donations, and been monetized on platforms like YouTube and, more recently, Facebook. I’ve published Kindle books and offered a range of digital services, from consulting to content creation. While I’m not a millionaire or a six-figure earner (yet), I’ve consistently made money online for 25 years—and that’s something worth talking about.

Focus on the First Dollar, Not the Millionth

Here’s the truth: don’t get caught up in chasing millions before you’ve made your first $10. The key is building belief. Once you see that first sale, it confirms that making money online is possible. From there, it becomes a compounding process. $10 turns to $20, $50 to $100, and so on. Success is built degree by degree.

Start small. Make your first $25. Then your first $100. Build a process that works for you, then tweak, refine, and scale it. That’s how I’ve approached the journey. That’s how digital domination begins.

The Rise and Realities of Social Media Monetization

In spring 2024, I became monetized on Facebook. My first check? $30. A modest amount, sure, but it was another validation of the concept. Without trying, my content earned money.

From there, it scaled—$150, $480, $1,000. At my peak last summer, I was reaching over 4 million people on Facebook. Engagement was high, merch was selling, people were donating via Buy Me a Coffee, and I was in a great financial rhythm.

Fast forward to July 2025: same type of content, a million views this month—and only $38 earned. The drop? Algorithm changes. Monetization rules shifted. And I’m not alone. Friends and fellow creators have been demonetized or shadowbanned, sometimes with no clear explanation.

Monetization is Real—But It’s Not Reliable

Here’s what this taught me: never put all your income eggs in the social media basket. As exciting as monetization is, it’s out of your hands. You’re at the mercy of platform decisions, algorithm shifts, and policy changes.

That’s why you need to build and own your own platforms. Sell digital products. Offer consulting. Launch a course. Open a merch store. Publish on Kindle. These are income streams you control. Social media monetization should be the bonus—not the foundation.

Even if you’re not banned or demonetized, algorithms alone can kill your reach overnight. If you’ve been in this game long enough, you’ve seen it happen. Your engagement dips, your income slows, and you’re left scrambling.
